The Harry Prigg Memorial Trophy

Harry was a long standing member friend and Trustee of Llantrisant Folk Club. A merchant seaman all his life, Harry died in July 1997, aged just 47, while serving on board ship in the Carribbean.

With his nautical background, Harry's love was of course the shanty, but this was by no means an exclusive love - he enjoyed a wide variety of song and poetry, from the ridiculous to the sublime.

Harry was as easily moved to tears of joy as to tears of sadness, he will be remembered for his sheer love of life.

During the weekend a small panel of judges will choose the song which stands out above the others as being the most memorable. The song will preferably be related to the sea but a song of sufficient beauty or humour could well win the prize, as befits a true representation of Harry's varied tastes.

The trophy, a wooden, hand crafted, miniature ships wheel is an annual challenge trophy and is a fitting memorial to that gentle giant, "Our Harry"

Thanks to Phil Downing for the original idea and for creating the Trophy
